Arts and nature-based programs that inspire the heart, hands and imagination.

Rowan Tree Children’s School

We protect the integrity of childhood by filling the children’s senses with beauty and meaning while surrounding them in love. We strive to light a fire that ignites the child’s own innate ability to wonder, be curious and find meaning and joy through learning.

Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that Rowan Tree Children’s School is located on the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory and in the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Nations, collectively known as the Williams Treaties First Nations, which include: Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Alderville, Scugog Island, Rama, Beausoleil, and Georgina Island First Nations.

Rowan Tree Children’s School respectfully acknowledges that the Williams Treaties First Nations are the stewards and caretakers of these lands and waters in perpetuity, and that they continue to maintain this responsibility to ensure their health and integrity for generations to come.

We offer our gratitude to the First Peoples for their care for, and teachings about, our earth and our relations.  May we honour those teachings and respect and learn from each other. May we strive to protect Turtle Island and find inspiration and guidance from Indigenous teachings and from the Indigenous communities around us.

Our Programs

Rowan Tree Preschool

(2.5-4 yrs)

Inspired by the principles of Waldorf education, we provide an environment that is tuned to the sensibilities of young children. Through music, art, stories, and rhythm of the day, we foster a child’s curiosity and interest in the world. We feel we can only instill a sense of caring and compassion in children, if we, as teachers and parents, act with dignity, love, reverence and respect.

Nature Kindergarten

(4-5 yrs)

EXPLORE, CREATE, PLAY and LEARN! Nature and the child at play are at the centre of this Waldorf-inspired, play and place-based educational program for four to five-year-olds. Our Nature Kindergarten is designed to support the development of the whole child (head, heart, and hands) through daily adventures in nature, emergent curriculum, an inquiry-based teaching style, imaginative play, and creative and artistic experiences.

Grade School

(Grade 1 to 6)

Our Grade School follows the same hybrid education model as our Nature Kindergarten program; combining Waldorf-inspired curriculum with Forest School principles. Children learn Literacy, Numeracy, Social Studies, Science, and the Arts. Afternoons are spent outdoors exploring, playing, and learning through inquiry and hands-on experiences.
