This position is on an “On Call” basis, where the substitute is needed sometimes on very short notice.

Qualifications and Skill Required:

  • Waldorf Teacher Certificate and/or Bachelor of Education (Ontario) is an asset

  • Teaching experience in either an outdoor education environment or school setting

  • First Aid and CPR certification is up-to-date or willing to obtain

  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check

  • Be flexible and adaptable to new situations

  • Ability to use good judgment, self management and effective problem-solving skills

Educational Assistant

POSITION DETAILS

Rowan Tree Children’s School is seeking a full-time Educational Assistant beginning immediately. This an externally funded position.

SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Educational Assistant will support a student within the Grade 3/4 class and work under the guidance of the lead teacher and the Head of School. The hours of the position will be Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm. Additional hours will be required for meeting with the lead teacher and the educational team during the school year.

KEY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

The ideal candidate will have passion for holistic education as well as training and/or experience in Waldorf education and/or Outdoor education, and experience supporting children’s learning in an educational setting. In addition, the following qualities would be required:

  • Child and Youth Worker Diploma, D.S.W., E.C.E. or E.A. Diploma OR a 2 year College Diploma or University Degree, plus experience working with elementary or secondary age students or individuals with special needs and/or behavioural difficulties

  • Current Police Check, including the Vulnerable Sector Check 

  • Current Standard First Aid Certification

  • Ability to create a warm, gentle, and supportive environment; 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with children, colleagues and parents

  • Lived experiences with conversational Ojibwe or experience teaching the language and fluency would be an asset but is not a requirement

  • First Nations background and/or experience teaching Indigenous children is an asset

COMPENSATION: 

This full-time position will be paid on an hourly basis at a rate of $22 to $25 per hour (depending on qualifications), inclusive of 4% vacation pay, for 35 hours / week.
